for really clear negatives...

...follow these easy steps:
1.In complete darkness, load film into reel, and place into tank.
2.Fill several bottles with water, and place on a warming tray,so that all are at the same temperature.
3.Mix your stop bath,and fix.
4.Answer the phone.
5.Afer returning from the phone, dilute your developer.
6.Process your films, then realise you've diluted your developer with your fix!!!!

Speaking of beer... Did you know that if you set your beer down where it can be knocked over and dumped into the stop bath, the stop bath will still function? The prints don't even look appreciably different...

Last week loaded a rarely used elderly Contax rangefinder camera with Tri X and shot about 25 exposures of the inside of the lens cap I had left on !.

When using a Pentax K-mount body, a simple adaptor will allow the use of 42mm screw mount lenses. Advanced engineering skills are needed, though, when using a screw mount body and the 200mm lens you've brought along is a K-mount....

If you are used to shooting a RB67 ProS, and you purchase a new back for the camera, and a certain well known purveyor of camera equipment sends said back with an earlier style, non Pro S dark slide - you will learn two things:

1) Yes, you can now shoot with dark slide in place.
2) No, you cant roll the film through the camera the other way - it will become jammed on the tape that holds it to the backing.

Oh - I guess one more thing - looking at (previously) unexposed, undeveloped film under room lighting makes you feel weird... like you just made baby Jesus cry or something...

If you have been using mirror lock-up on a RB67, and for some reason want to continue shooting without MLU, just leave the lens in MLU mode. After all, the mirror will flip up and the camera sound will be quite as normal. As a bonus, the shutter will not be released and thus reducing a lot of wear. No risk of overexposure either.

It's not mandatory to presoak your film in the lavatory bowl. ( But maybe that's why it's called Pan F ?) Alternatives are: Plan A - close the lid before you go into the bathroom overloaded with film, spirals, developing tank, other paraphenalia: plan B - after your shower, mop that slippery puddle off the tiled floor.

For some reason, plan B is very popular with my wife. I don't know why since it wasn't her film.

If you had difficulty loading film on to plastic developing reels in your teens and your twenties, you are not likely to find it easier 25 years later.

1000' feet of film loaded into a magazine with the emulsion facing in won't expose the same as when the film is loaded with the emulsion side facing the lens.
Good think we "check the gate" after the good take.

The shutter that works perfectly in the house seems to stick at above 10,500 feet and zero degree wind chill.

When tidying away your kitchen darkroom, do not drop your box of Ilford MGIV RC glossy containing over seventy sheets of pristine paper, and in your panic to catch it, do not then toe punt it the length of the kitchen, parting box from contents allowing the black bag to open and scatter it's contents everywhere under the brightest striplight in your home...

A few years ago, the Photographers gallery in London exhibited a set of empty frames with descriptions of the images that would have been in them......you never know, it could catch on............

Even more points if you cut your self with the lid and bleed all over the film.

Dont take comfort in the fact that your polaroid 55 film is in the right way because you can read the correct side through the groundglass. This normally means the holder is in the wrong way round

Take a roll of wedding formals with a maymia press 6x9. Change to new back and see the string that was on the darkslide in side the body of the camera.

Put a close up lens instead of a UV filter on your TLR.

Wait until the camera batteries are flat before photographing the wedding ceremony.
