Did the Sigma 28-56mm f3.5-4.5 actually exist?

This is a manual focus lens with fixed lens mounts, and is in the Sigma literature, but seems to be unknown.

Anyone here ever hear of it?

Advertising in the national media is very expensive, in the days when I worked for a photographic company , more than 25 years ago, a one page advert in one issue of a weekly magazine cost £ 10,000 I can't see a company going to the expense of advertising products they don't have to sell.

A Google image search for "Sigma 28-56mm" reveals a couple of photos of it on a Japanese site, but unfortunately the images are only in Google's cache; they are no longer on the site and the Internet Archive does not have a cache of the page.

On this Sigma history page there is reference to "Zoom Micron 28-56mm F3.5-4.5" in 1985.

"28-56mm f3.5-4.5" is listed on this page of Sigma filter sizes.

The first photo is from a page from a Sigma sales brochure. I have the specs on the lens, so I'm sure it went into production in the 1980's. It looks exactly like many other Sigma zooms of the period. It just seems odd that it is so hard to find. It's an unusual zoom range -- 28-56mm -- when Sigma, and everyone else, were making lots of 28-70mm & 28-85mm zooms. But it is very small and lightweight. Might be a great lens with a Minolta XG camera.

A friend of mine actually has this lens, so yes, it does exist.
I'm planning on borrowing it on a trip to Utah (with my Pentax ME) so I'll let you know how it feels and performs if you want. I'm not a professional by any means but I could try my best and describe how I feel about it.

I convinced that it exists, but it sure is hard to find any info on it -- other than it is small and light. Seems like a great lens on an ME in UT.

I could ask my friend for the manual and I'd be able to scan it- but it's up to him really. I believe he has the box for it still, or at least the manual/instructions booklet. Here's another photo of his lens. The other photo i posted earlier is also of his lens

Thanks. Don't go to any trouble. I just think it might be a nice lens for everyday use. Finding the manual is EZ. Finding the lens? Completely different.

Probably is, although it might be best to get a 28-70

Why? He specifically asked about the 28-56.

It was mostly as simply finding a 28-56mm sigma isn't easy and 28-70mm offers a similar level of flexibility without too much compromise. And I realise what the point of the thread is but OP mentioned "everyday use" in a reply, so i offered an alternative to seeking out a hard-to-come-by lens

I suspect that the 28-56mm is substantially smaller and lighter than a 28-70mm.
