You just made me think of something, I wonder if the separate hardener from Kodak Rapid Fixer can be used just as a hardener in the situation you mentioned? I have several of those small bottles which I have no use for. I do use brown toner regularly but I never bothered to use a hardener after.

I've started buying the Kodak Rapid Fixer again as a result.

Truthfully, there is no such thing as the wrong fixer when you get down to it. Any is better than none, and most will suit.

Sorry folks. False alarm on my part. Roger was right, I have Kodafix, a "fast acting, hardening fixer".

I should have waited until I got home to find out what I actually had before posting my question.
