Besides the dark slides for the Polaroid and 70mm backs, did Hasselblad sell different versions of dark slides for their 120 film backs (A12, E12. A16, E16, A24, E24?) Does anyone know if they had different model numbers? I ask because I own two E12 backs, and they came with slightly different dark slides, and I want to figure out if they are both Hasselblad originals, or maybe one is aftermarket. The easiest difference to see is that the handles are shaped differently. On my first E12, the dark slide has a straight handle that fits snuggly in the dark slide holder. My second E12 came with a dark slide that has a "bent" handle with an indentation in the middle that prevents it from "clicking" into the dark slide holder and I want to buy a replacement.

Photos may be useful.

No idea how the slides may have changed, but I would imagine that a design revision to be more likely than different backs from the same time period having different slides.

Also wondering how close Hasselblad slides were to other 6x6 backs. Any chance the odd fitting one isn't even designed for the back?

The dark slides used in 70mm backs are the same as the 120 and 220 backs I have used. This includes old style manual backs as well as the A style automatic backs. No experience with E backs, too new.

I had two types of Hasselblad dark slides:
  • Straight and reasonably shiny
  • Bent and straightened, but not done very well
I replaced the later with new ones I order from the internet.

The 2 on the left have different handles

All original Hasselblad dark-slides are stamped "Hasselblad Sweden"

All the dark-slides pictured here are stamped thus.

Thanks! That's really helpful. Neither of the slides that came with my backs are stamped like that. I guess that means that both my backs came with aftermarket slides?

Maybe they're ones from a Kiev 88 ?
Kiev copied one of the early Hasselblad cameras , some parts such as the dark slide and viewfinder are interchangeable .
Or are your parts off a later camera .
Just a thought .

... $38 a piece.

Good thing I haven't lost any darkslides. $38 each is ridiculous. I'll make my own darkslides out of cat food tins before I'll pay that.

Reminds me of overpriced Canon lens hoods for EOS.

Kiev dark slides are slightly narrower than Hasselblad's, a Kiev slide will fit into a Hasselblad back, but a Hasselblad slide will not fit into a Kiev back. When a Kiev slide is in a Hasselblad back, there is a small amount of lateral play, but the slide appears to remain light tight (I have not tested this extensively, so don't use my word on this).

Kiev dark slides do not have the 2 dimples at the handle end of the slide. And obviously are not stamped "Hasselblad Sweden"
