Hello everyone, I've a question. What is the diameter of the roll spine for Fuji Crystal Archive Type II and Kodak Endura Premier? I want to buy a paper dispenser like this to ease cutting, but I'm not sure if I can mount the roll into it. I looked up the datasheet but can't find information about it.

Thank you

I can't tell you directly, but I have a pinhole camera that I built from the core of a paper roll I scrounged from a processing lab years ago. The inside diameter (which is what will matter for your mounting, right?) is exactly right to hold two Foma 9x12 cm film sheets with the long dimension wrapped around. It's so perfect that the thickness of the sheets serves to keep them tightly pressed against the inside of the roll. Get the exact dimension of a Fomapan 100 9x12 film (it's about 118 mm, but a half millimeter may matter here), and a calculator with a pi key, and you've got your diameter.

Photographic paper rolls are usually wound on 3" cores ( internal ) .... 77mm approx.

If you do use that dispenser, make sure you line the metal bar ( side facing the paper ) with a soft covering such as sticky-back velvet to avoid scratching the paper surface.

That Amazon kraft paper "cutter" looks ridiculously underbuilt for RA4 paper use. It's really a thin paper tear-off device rather than a true cutter. It's going to give you crinkles and lack of squareness, if it can even handle the weight and thickness of photo paper, which is unlikely.

It won't work as a cutter, but if you line it up with eg a rotary cutter (so that the amazon product basically is only the spindle that holds the roll), it may work. But it looks to me that the spindle is too thin, and also that the legs/mounts are too close to it to hold a full roll of paper. So it's a bit of a problematic product for this purpose without extensive modifcation.

I wasn't planning on using it as a cutter, I've a rotary cutter. I just need it as a holder to dispense. If you know a better dispenser that would work please let me know, thanks

I'd certainly check on the weight of the paper roll and then find out of the holder you have in mind will be strong enough. If all you need is a holder it might be worth getting a local workshop or a metal worker in his spare time to make one for your

Better than that do a search here. I think that a member called BMbikerider has posted about his home-made holder

A simple thick hardwood dowel run through the middle and supported at both ends will work as a roll holding device. No different than a closet rod. A squaring cutter with predictable lengths of pull-out is a different story. I happen to have a 48 inch wide Rotatrim which I attached to an equally large laminated table. There is a fixed stainless steel straightedge for the right edge, and an adjustable one for preset length positions. The roller is slightly below the cutter per se, and is fed over a second roller directly across the cutter. Any guessing and the paper simply won't be square.

What size rolls of RA4 paper will you be using?
The rolls can be heavy, depending on their size.
For example, Fuji Crystal Archive roll 20.3cm x 93m is 4kg(approx), 30.5cm x 93m is 6.5kg.
Ideally, you should have a spindle that will fit and support the core and that has a side (or two) so the paper doesn't unspool crookedly and you can also rewind the paper back in line with the roll.
Maybe something like this, but homemade.

Is the one in the picture coming from a lab machine?

Yes, if you search ebay you can find them. They are designed to fit a minilab paper cassette so they are designed to sit into a groove rather than be threaded onto a spindle.
