Hi, I was just woundering if anyone had a manual for a floor standing 504 that they could let me have a copy of? I've just brought one and will be collecting it this week. Regards Chris.

I have a 5108 manual in the UK, the main features are very similar. The basics as far as you need for transport are how to split the column from the base. This has to be done with care or the focus chains come of their gears and it's a fiddly messy job to relocate them, due to the grease.

There are two bolts at the rear which need screwing in to lock the gears before you remove the front parts. First remove the head but watch the spring that counter balances it must be tightened down or the head shoots straight to the top of the column.

The floor standing base is unlikely to fit in most cars, I needed to hire a van. The baseboard can be removed but the frame is still quite large.

Hi clwyd, here is a link to a description of my experience moving a floor-standing 507, identical to the 504 apart from the size of the head stage. I managed to transport the beast in the back of a Renault Laguna, but to do it in a car may need the baseboard support removing, which will leave the control handles dangling a bit precariously.

Moving a De Vere 504.

I would add that as well as locking down the focus and elevation knobs, I would use a good strap/line to make sure it stays put while moving. Knobs can loosen and what not and the strap , going around the neg stage/ head , to the bottom part of the top section would be wise backup. Hope this makes sense. I did this when I was moving my 5108 and the strap/tie down suggestion was from Kevin at KHB.

Thanks for all the advice, I collected it today I was a bit surprised when it turned out to be 7 feet tall. We took a transit van in the end and lay it down to save taking it to bits. I now need some advice on how the neg carrier goes together but I will do a new post for this. Thanks again Chris

Hi Ian, Just got it in to the darkroom (bottom end of garage) what a monster, the table is almost as big as my dining room table!! I've started a new post about the neg carrier any help you can offer would be appriciated, I think I must be doing something really stupid. The head is a 400 ilford with a 500c control I've got manuals from the ilford web site for them but Im a bit clueless when it comes to the devere part of the head. regards Chris

Good luck with your enlarger. Reminds that I was doing the same thing almost a year ago.

Hi Guys,

Christmas arrived earlier this year for me and on Saturday I will receive a De Vere 504 with Dichromatic head MkIV!
I already used this machine in a darkroom I am renting and I love it! Problem is is coming without manual...
I checked http://www.odyssey-sales.com/ but the contact page doesn't work, are they out of business? I will be happy to get an original copy of the manual from them if is possible.
If not does someone here as an electronic copy of the manual and is willing to share it?

Cheers
Ferru
