Developing Foma 400

Hello,
Has anybody suggestions on developing time for Foma 400 rated 320, using Rodinal/R09 or Xtol? I have looked on www.digitaltruth.com and a couple of google searches but to no avail - unless I missed it completely.... :confused: Wondering if any of you has done it.... also with other developers.

We certainly can NOT recommend Rodinal/R09 for this film.

AM74 (Rollei high speed) on iso 320 OK.
Xtol on iso 320 is also OK.

Taken from the Foma Dada sheet:

Xtol 7-8 mins at 20°C
Microphen 7-9

In my opinion Foma 400 is on the slow side like 250 ASA

It compares Fortepan 400 with J and C Classic 400 developed in Pyrocat-HD. J and C Classic 400 developed in Pyrocat-HD is one of my favorite combinations.

It compares Fortepan 400 with J and C Classic 400 developed in Pyrocat-HD. J and C Classic 400 developed in Pyrocat-HD is one of my favorite combinations.

I stuck my foot in my mouth and confused Fortepan with Foma. They are different films with different characteristics.

To quote John of J and C:

"Fortepan 400 is the same film as our Classic 400 and is not the same as Foma 400. Foma 400 comes on a gray base and is really a 200 or so speed film. The thread you quoted was not about Foma 400."

May I ask why. I have some rolls I bought in Czeck Republic and I like Rodinal so much. Why will Rodinal not work here?

Fomapan 400 is a great film. I expose it at 320 ISO and process the film in Rodinal 1+50 for 13 minutes (20C) or in D-76 1+1 for 8.5 minutes (20C). The D-76 combo is my favourite because of the fine grain.
Attached is a scanned negative of fpan 400 developed in Rodinal.

Ok, thanks for the answer. I like big grain and will try to develop a roll try see if I like the result. I normally do Tri-X with Rodinal (metered @ 800 or 1600) for nice grain.
