Just pick up a few rolls and test it, but certainly Rodinal is just fine with it.

To All:

Thank you for all the suggestions and examples of some of the work done with this film (very nice images). Rodinal was suggested the most, with D76 and HC-110 tied for second. I will take this data and make my best shot at processing the film. As with other films the more rolls I shoot the more opportunity to try various developers. Let the learning curve begin.

That is sure how it seems to a noob like me. Every developer works with every film. Further, in a different thread, it is related that most developers are virtually the same and all the effort should go to printing, not developing.

I often joke that Kodak must have changed the formula of HC-110 at some point because at first, years ago, I disliked it, could not get the tonality or look I wanted at all. Now it's my most used developer. I love it. So they must have changed it, right?

Do you have the new 1L bottle version or does it still come in American sizes? They recently changed bottle sizes and also who produces the chemistry and it's more viscous and some have commented that their results seem different.

This is heresy as I haven't picked up a new bottle yet.

No, all old bottles. I bought around 8 of them about 6 months ago knowing the change in size was coming, from what I read so far I think it's the same stuff anyway. But I was only kidding...

I hope you don't totally go with that impression. The fastest way to better prints is to make better negatives. The choice of developers is only one part of it.

ACROS is one of my favorite films in all formats, though I tend to use it primarily in either roll film or 4x5. It's hard to find in 8x10. It has a distinct spectral sensitivity different from other pan films, so tends to lend a more natural look to mtn or desert lighting. Any common developer should work. I generally use my standard PMK pyro, and the film prints superbly. The only tricky thing I quickly learned is that ACROS seems a little more susceptible to air bells when tray developed, so you need to keep the film steadily shuffled. I've never had that issue with reel hand
inversion tanks, like those used for 120 and 35mm film.
