I may have figured out my error. Is this what the developer drop is supposed to look like in the attached photo?

Last weekend I had 2 1 gallon jugs, one had filtered water, the other D-76. The top drop is from what I thought was the water jug, and the bottom drop is from what I thought was the developer jug.

Ooops! :D

Happens to the best of us!

The mystery has been solved! Yes, that is how the developer drop should appear.
As far as bottles are concerned, I recommend bottled sparkling water bottles from the grocery store that have plastic (not foil) caps.
You will, of course, need to drink the sparkling water first.:D
If you get two different types, it will be easier to differentiate them at a glance.
In any event, mark them very, very clearly with their contents!
Coloured bottles are nice, but they can make it harder to examine the contents.
It is a good idea to store them away from bright light.
By the way, I'd also recommend buying at least two packages of everything. That way you can replenish your stock at leisure when you use the last package/bottle in your inventory.

See post #17.

it was pretty obvious.

Bingo! Good thing you didn't get thirsty while you were processing...

....Beginners learn by making mistakes...I tend to learn more by trying to figure out what went wrong than what went right. But I keep notes just in case It does.

Exactly. And we're more likely to remember it too. My two most memorable were exposures that could not be repeated. Now I'm more conscious and careful.
