I have an Ica Ideal iii, but unfortunately, the right "squeeze-pull" knob that allows the bellows to be pulled out has been screwed out.

I can't see any hole under the cover plate for the knob to screw into, presumably because it has moved out of place. I do see a spring (coil-type) with a loop at its end, which is anchored to something in the middle of the slider.

I don't think I'm missing any parts.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have an Ica Ideal 246 (9x12cm) here, so I just tested what happens if I remove the "squeeze-pull" knob/screw. (I had removed the locking system before, so no problem...).

Indeed the mechanism underneath snaps to the side, forced by a quite week spring.

To move it back access from the downside is required, so first slide the sledge with the lens board as much out as you can. (Is this possible on your camera???)
Then use the focussing knob to extend the bellows until you have free access.
then move the sliding part (in the middle of the slider) with your finger nail and get the knop/screw in from above.

Thanks very much for your reply. I did manage to figure out the mechanism after my post, and put it all back as it should be. It was pretty much as you just described.

My chief problem was that the right knob had been unscrewed when the bellows were closed, so the mechanism and the lens standard were stuck in the initial position. I couldn't pull it forward along the rails.

It was a bit of a struggle to free it, but I finally managed to do it.

Just to ensure that there is a record of the mechanism on this forum, I am posting a picture of what the mechanism looks like from the underside. The spring pulls the sliding mechanism to the right, and the T-shaped hook engages a post on the bed for the railing.

Moving the right knob to the left slides the mechanism to the left, the hook disengages from the post, and the lens standard can be pulled forward.
