I thought the meet up is Saturday, Sept 11th. Is that right?

D.

You are correct Derek! That is currently the date we are planning...

Great idea of meeting at DPP David, I think that's a great place to meet. It is close to the gates rubber factory that some have stated interest in. I think it's perfect. What do you think Mike? Any no votes on that? If we can agree I don't mind calling Travis to set something up unless you want to Mike. How about a time? I think it would be cool so shoot from late after noon into sundown. Say 5pm-7ish? Maybe meet at DPP around 4 and head out around 5? what do you think?

I think it sounds like a great idea to meet at DPP. Takes care of figuring out a meeting place, plus gives me a chance to check out DPP. Derek, I can't see anybody voting no, but you never know! Go ahead and set something up with Travis and let us know. Thanks so much for jumping in on this! We appreciate it!

Well as usual, I'll be there if work doesn't interfere. I'm not much of a street photographer but I'm certainly willing to give it a try. Besides, there will I expect be some beer in there someplace...a pub, or some place else "photogenic" right?

Okay, I talked to Travis over at Denver Pro Photo. He is super supportive of the analog shooter and seemed pretty excited about us meeting up there. He said we can park our cars there and go shoot. It is a little short notice for him but if he has some time he can give us a tour of there sound stages and photo studios in the back of the building. I think that would be cool. There hours on Saturday are 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. So, we will have to meet up in that window of time for this meet up. I am going to suggest 2:00 pm to meet at DPP. That gives us an hour to get our selves together take a quick look at DPP if Travis has the time and then off to shoot for a couple of hours. If anyone wants to grab a beer after wards then there is that too. What do you all think?

Travis seemed really interested in putting something together for all the analog shooters in the Denver metro area at Denver Pro Photo. So I hope this will sort of grow into something cool for the local film shooters. Let's hope so. Thanks David, for the tip to call Travis.

Thanks Derek for looking into this... That's great news! Let's get comments from the group and go from there. For me, 2PM should work fine and I'm sure we can find a place for refreshments :munch:

..not a problem...
If you are doing this on 911 I will not be there unfortunately, as I take that day off [911]. I am usually there on Saturdays as a consultant, rarely am I not there.

Travis & James will take care of the group. If you want beer, there is Breckenridge Brewery on Kalamath just south of 6th Av. [about a 1/2 mi. from DPP].

regards,

dw

I'm into meeting at the photo shop. I'd like to check it out, and it will give me a chance to buy some Ektar (and who knows what else) in case what I ordered hasn't arrived by then. Crossing my fingers for some haze or partly/mostly cloudy for the shooting.

No worries David, we totally understand.

Okay, this looks like it will be fun. Yeah, DPP has lots of the Ektar for ya Mike. You might want to bring some extra cash because I always end up buying something else too. It's like a candy store.

See you all then,
D.

It was a great time meeting you all, and shooting with you too. I can't wait to see some of the images we come up with. Also a thanks to David for suggesting Denver Pro Photo as our meeting spot. Travis treated us well. I just love that store.

Yeah I'm glad I was able to make it, it was a good time and I enjoyed meeting you all. As for DPP? I had forgotten how nice that place is and I'm sure my wife will soon hate the place.
Lets do it again soon!

I don't remember who was in on the conversation but I think it was at the brewery that I mentioned that Canon had made a rangefinder with an f1.7 lens (the Canonet QL17). I think the context was that it may be the fastest lens put on a rangefinder. I had forgotten that Canon also made the 7 which has a lovely f0.95 lens, which I think is the fastest lens available on a rangefinder. Could be wrong though, anyone know of a faster one?

There are tons of RF lenses (fixed and otherwise), both past and present that are equivalent to, or faster than, f/1.7, but only one as fast as the old Canon TV lens.

The fastest fixed RF lens from the old days I can think of is the Yashica Lynx 14. It has a f/1.4 aperture (hence the name). Yashica's Electro series (also fixed lens) from the 70s offered f/1.7 lenses.

You still see the Canon f/.95 lenses floating around on the forums, usually for well below $1k. Images made with them are pretty dreamy. Whether that's good or bad depends on what you want from a lens . The old Noctilux f/1 is also available used for around $3k.

Konica once made a 60mm f/1.2 Hexanon in M-mount, as well. Pretty expensive on the used market at around $3k I think.

And, as Derek mentioned, Leica continues to make the fastest RF lens in production: The current Noctilux is a cool $11k, though, so I probably won't ever own one (or even hold one for that matter -- too risky).

Voigtlander also currently produces a couple of very fast RF lenses: the 50mm f/1.1 and 35mm f/1.2 Noktons. They are very reasonably priced (depending upon how reasonable you are), especially used.

There are tons of f/1.4 and f/1.5 lenses available for M-mount (of which my little Voigtlander 35 is one) and Leica Thread Mount.

There, more than you ever wanted to know about large-aperture RF lenses.

OK, at long last, here are my picks/pics from the meet-up at Gates Rubber Company. Such an uplifting place to shoot -- dark like my soul . Unfortunately, my lovely wife didn't specify TIFF files for my scans at the lab, so I got JPGs . I did some pixel-peeping and they still look pretty darn good, and didn't need much editing so no harm (or not much) was done to the JPGs.

I love Delta 100, but that Adox did some pretty nice things, too, I think. And the Ektar is stunning (first color film I've shot in recent times).

Excellent shots Mike! Nicely done with the ektar! I souped mine last night and will get them scanned this week (I have a few shots more on my last roll, so they'll have to wait a few days).
