At the surface the biggest concern will be the hadronic component in cosmic rays, neutrons, pions etc. Once you have a meter or so earth overhead, the concern shifts indeed to radon (and its decay products), being a noble gas, this is hard to manage. I suggest purging with clean nitrogen.
Next thing on your list will be muons and muon-induced neutrons as well as neutrons from the rock, which can be reduced by going into a mine.
