Is there any benefit to an acid stop bath for film unless dealing with short (under 5 min) development times?

Provided the alternative water rinse/wash is sufficient there's no benefit using a stop bath with films other than perhaps marginally extending the life of the fixer. The major film manufacturers recommend stop bath or a water rinse.
