Dektol w/ benzo added, does it keep?

I added some benzo to a liter of Dektol last month, went to use it today and the restraining action was so heavy that the paper fogged even before an image came up...

So I was wondering maybe developer with benzo added should only be used for that session?

Something is not right here. Benzotriozole (sp?) STOPS fogging and/or changes tone to cold.

You can add Benzo at any time.......except after developing.

Are you sure that it was Benzotriazole that you added??

Benzotriazole is a restrainer and anti-fogging agrnt.

Out of curiosity, what was the purpose of the benzotriazole in the first place? Was it because you knew up front that your paper was fogged, or were you looking for tones? It sounds to me like your paper is irretrievably fogged. Benzo won't fix that.

I have had recent experience of adding benzo to Ilford dev, thanks to a generous APUGer, and it certainly worked to virtually eliminate noticeable fogging on Agfa paper which was several years old. That was about 2 weeks ago and it is still working fine. Dev and benzo are kept in a Nova Quad processor

Benzotriazole in developer will last as long as the developer solution. It is very stable in alkali.

OK, thanks all...

Checked my notes, had made up the Dektol with benzo on 6/30 and used it that day for a few prints and it worked well to hold back fog on older Agfa paper. I pulled it out this week again but got the results I posted in msg #1 above.

So I immediately switched to some Ansco 130 1:2 and used a 30-40sec dev time, which worked perfectly, with just a bit of bleach needed afterwards.

Unless the Dektol went bad in storage, 78 degrees approx, full bottle, within 3 months...quite possible.

If Dektol goes bad, it gives weak or no images.

BTAZ reduces fog, lowers contrast and increases development time.

Your observations are not consistant with BTAZ problems or Dektol problems.
