I remember the plea from the heart for ILFORD branded t shirts etc, I made them, and many of you did buy them ( thanks very much to all who did ) but the remaining ones have been around so long we are thinking of inviting them to the company Christmas party....

I would rather have the t shirt than an old film emulsion. I am very happy with FP4 and HP5+. I am especially happy that I can still get a traditional grained emulsion with an ISO 400 in 4"x5" film. Ok, 5"x4" for you.

Would Ilford consider putting a Classified Ad in APUG that would allow say 1,000 [this is a bogie for the sake of an example] shirts to be sold as a minimum before any would be shipped? If the bogie of 1,000 was not made in 60 days, the offer would be withdrawn, no harm, no foal. If the bogie was made, then Ilford would sell what the could before the orders dropped to the point that it was not worth continuing.

I wonder: Does Harman still own the brand names that were bought up by Ilford over the years?

I have some vague recollection of some paper appearing with the 'Barnett' name on it a while back - what was all that about?

How about Rajar, Britannia, Wellington and Ward? Is it possible that some of these classic names and logo's might make an appearance at some point?

I wonder if Simon talked to the folks at Freestyle, they they might clear out the T-shirts in no time. First I have herd of them! My ILFORD camera strap carried my Pentax for many years, and I would probably be still using my ILFORD mugs if they were a bit bigger....

But if I could get a 2XL Ilford shirt for 25US shipped to canada, I am in!

Those 510s were brilliant. Weren't they a 2 door version of the 1600?

Depends on the market, and the model year, In Canada 1971 they were 2, 4, hachback and wagon. Mine (My Dads) was a 4 door with a BW full automatic transmission.

I am sitting here at Mobberley in the Cheshire countryside on a site bought in 1903 by the RAJAR photo company of Liverpool, the old building at the front has the stone RAJAR sign outside. They moved here when it became too atmospherically polluted in Liverpool to coat...so they needed the clean, country air. ILFORD bought RAJAR and inherited the site, that in 1984 became the main coating site when all the factories in and around London were closed.

I would suggest that you telephone the number Simon has given and order a T shirt, it's that simple.

I have one, all it took was a very late night (for me) telephone call and one of the Ilford T shirts made it's way to sunny Australia.

Dear Simon,
thank-you for taking the time to respond.

Of course, I understand that such things are fantasy and that those old emulsions are probably at best impossible to revive whether for commercial and/or technical reasons. I appreciate the historical factors and have been aware of the hoops that the Impossible Project have had to jump through reproduce Polaroid film using modern materials, for example. All in all, I'm just grateful that a company like Ilford has made the effort to keep it's whole range of B&W silver halide emulsions in production to this day. That is small miracle in itself.

So, assuming that we are not going to see HP3 or 4 any time soon I accept the challenge of finding ways of pushing (no pun intended) HP5+ to it's historical, material and poetic limits!
