Does anybody know where i can get a de vere 504 negative carrier, format masks and lens boards?

I have a lens board kicking around here which I think is a DeVere - I'll try to find it tomorrow and post a pic.

There's been a reasonable flurry of De Vere bits and bobs on the auction site recently - most of them London (or south) based.

There was a De Vere 504 negative carrier on Ebay 2 days ago when I searched and picked up a lens board for £8. The same boards fit the 504/507/5108 there's two types metal and a composite (a bit like Bakerlite).

The only one i can see cost £150. That is more than i am paying for the whole enlarger. Also, is the ilford multigrade 400 head compatible with modern ilford multigrade papers?

Yes the headis compatible.

I'd suggest making a temporary negative holder while you look, £150 is far too much. They do come up for sale for less, I picked up a whole set of pairs of inserts 5x4, 6x9, 6x6, 6x4.5 & 35mm last year at a Camera fair for £5. You might try a visit to Photographica next weekend (18th) in London you might find what you need there.

The 400 will be fine with any variable contrast paper, though I think, (distant memory) that it may not have the complete grades, maybe just up to G4. May be worth waiting till an Ilford 500 head comes up. Parts for the 500 can be scarce, expect worse for the 400.

That may be true, but having almost any esoteric part you may want in stock, in perfect condition, ready to deliver also has a price, it's up to the buyer to put the money down or keep looking. BTW I'm not related to them by any means, nor endorsing

Another vote for KHB, I got mixing boxes for my 400 from them.
