Hi guys,

so yesterday the bulb of my DeVere504 suddenly died in between two exposure. I changed the bulb but nothing...checked the fuse...is fine. The cooling fan in the head is working and the timer relay seems to work fine. So I guess my trouble is in the power supply box (DeVere 250W Tran-Stab)...but I have no idea if is fixable or better start looking for a new one? Any idea?

Cheers,
Ferruccio

PS> I saw the same power supply (DeVere 250W Tran-Stab) for 195£...

I'd start by talking with Odyssey Sales/ DeVere themselves - http://www.deveresecondhanddarkroom.com/contact-us - they might not be the cheapest, but they'll probably know what the problem & solution are.

I'd want to make sure the PSU has indeed failed.

Does the fan run off the same PSU as the lamp? Have you checked the replacement lamps to make sure they are good? It's not unknown for lamps to fail quickly.

If you have a multimeter, you can check for voltage at the lamp holder.

Just trying to think of checks you can make before writing off the PSU.

Thank you for the advises.

I will write to Odyssey/DeVere guys to check what are my options. At the moment I don't know if the back-up bulb failed as well, I just ordered a couple of new ones, they should arrive this week. The fan works correctly and I was thinking to invest in a multi-meter...for less then 10£ maybe I can get the PSU sorted?

Tonight I try to disassemble the PSU and have a look inside...

After inspection the PSU seems fine, a lot of dust and dead spiders but no melted parts or whatsoever... Tomorrow I should receive new bulb and multi-meter and I hope to find out what's wrong!

With the multimeter, you will be able to test for continuity of the bulb filament.

You should also be able to tell if the PSU is providing voltage to the bulb holder in the head.

So yesterday I received the new lamp and....let there be light - and there was light!
Apparently the previous spare lamp was already toasted, the PSU is working well!

Cheers,
Ferru
