De Vere 504 Neg. carrier

I do have an additional problem with one of the (6x6cm) boxes though. I get some bright points in the top left corner. could it be that the diffusion sheet is scratched on the inside?

I suppose my next question is - are the diffusion sheets replaceable?

Try using the 5x4 light mixing box (if you've not done so already) to see if this gets rid of the 'hot spot' on your 6x6cm printing.

Like others I stick with the 5x4 mixing box for all formats. There's probably a bit of light loss exposure wise on the smaller formats but personally I don't find it a problem.

I would have thought Odyssey can supply you with replacement diffusion sheets if this is damaged in anyway.

Have you checked to see if it is dirty in anyway in one of the corners?

It didn't dawn on me to check that - I also wondered if I might be getting light bouncing off the carrier in some way. I guess a bit of matt black paint should fix that.

I did wonder about taking the diffusion sheet out, but was a bit nervous about breaking it...

I run a 504 and a 203 in my darkoom (each with Ilford MG Heads) and have a selection of light boxes for each and like others I always use the larger light box for everything. The MG head is a firey beast with those two 300w bulbs going so even with a stop loss you will still find a De Vere + MG Head a lot quicker than most other B&W enlargers. I would not recommend having a DIY go at the light box but if you do make sure you can source a good used replacement first.
