Thought members of this forum would be interested to know that David Odess has died. Here is notice from his daughter from his web site:

Dear Customers of David,

It is with much sadness that I write this letter to let you know that my Dad, David Odess, has passed away. As you may or may not know, he was struggling with some health issues but doing relatively well and then became ill unexpectedly and passed away on August 5th. This sudden and unexpected loss is heartbreaking to me and to everyone that knew and loved him. He was a wonderful father and was passionate about his work and lifelong career and cared for his customers as if they were family. I will be hosting a Celebration of Life sometime in the fall.

I am asking that anyone who is able to kindly make a donation in David's name and memory to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation where my Dad was a dedicated volunteer for 24 years during which he raised more than $250,000. The link to make a donation can be found at www.curethekids.org.

My deepest gratitude to those of you who have supported David over the years. I know that your presence and support in his life allowed him to continue to enjoy his passion. That means so very much.

If you would like to reach out for any reason or to be added to an email list to be updated with information about the Celebration of Life, please feel free to email me at ocjilly@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,
Jill Fischer

Yes, very sad. He was very helpful to me and always willing to talk on the phone.

As far as I remember, David was well spoken of and well respected by mature, thoughtful photographers, whom used his services and skills.

I know many here and elsewhere will lament his passing

Godspeed.

Terrible news. I had several email conversations with David and he was always very generous with his time answering my questions. He'll be missed.

Very sad news indeed. I had just emailed him this morning regarding some of my equipment that is in his queue. As a relative newcomer to the world of Hasselblad, he was always very patient with me and I appreciated his expertise. I live nearby to him and we had discussed doing some videos of him at his work, but sadly the pandemic and several losses in my own family prevented that from ever happening.

The PBTF has lost one of its great advocates as well. His dedication to that cause was also most impressive. I hope his family can take solace in his life and memory.

Who gave him permission to pass? I did not sign the approval!

Siriusly, RIP

I did not ever use his services but I am still sad.

That's really terribly sad news. David did a few jobs for me, and his work was always impeccable and reasonably priced. And he was free and cheerful with advice via e-mail whenever needed. I really appreciated him, and I know he was relied upon by so many who also viewed him as a true gem.

And it's also sad to know we've lost someone who had such skill and passion--that's always in such short supply as to be precious, especially amongst us who love our wonderful old cameras, and counted on people like David to keep them going for us.

My condolences to his family, and a respectful and regretful farewell to David.

We are at a bad time in the world of mechanical technicians. We are not adding to the list, and we lose them faster. It’s unfortunate to lose another skilled technician.

I just did a search of him and found the website with the above message. Very sad.

I had him do a few repairs over the last 5 years, most recently about a year ago. The work was always perfect. He was not only highly skilled, but took pride in his work.

Beyond that, I had a few occasions to contact him about what various gear might be doing, and whether it might indicate a problem. He was so gracious with his time, generally by phone talking to me about it, even if it might not result in new repair work.

I miss him already, and have no idea who to go to for Hasselblad repairs going forward. RIP David.

This is truly sad; I had many conversations with him via phone and he will be missed.
