With no responses it must be yesterday's news:smile: . It is news to me however and thanks for that. Maybe no-one has responded because if the allegations are true and it would appear that Magnum thinks so, then I don't see how it could come to any other decision

Should it have taken so long for the information to be acted upon starts a lengthy debate upon whether even so called modern, enlightened companies and societies are doing enough to stamp out such things

It was just announced today, see the date in the Magnum posting above.

Maybe I should have tagged this post with #standdevelopment #nikonf2 and #leicablows to guarantee some activity

Yes my comment on it being yesterday's news was just British whimsy. However you have a point about what excites us on Photrio
Try pre-wash v no pre-wash if you really need to create interest :D

"His behavior was reported to Magnum as early as 2009, but the agency sat on the information for more than a decade. It finally took action in August of this year, but only after the allegations spilled into public:"
Note how big organizations often sit on information hoping it will not leak out. What a shame. Then they have to scramble to do damage control.

Companies could be afraid of lawsuits from employees who they fire. If one employee makes a charge against another, do you automatically fire the person charged? They could sue you for firing them for baseless or unproven reasons. I remember being a boss and an employee would screw off and not be at his job in the field. To protect the company, I had to give him a warning and I would have his supervisor at the meeting so I would have a witness. Then if he did it again, there would be a record of his first infraction so if we fired him, we'd have some protection. Laws protecting employees are very strong especially in some states.

One of the issues in this case (as in so many in media) is the perpetrator wasn’t exactly an employer, Magnum members are the company, and the alleged victims aren’t actually employees. It’s “you’ll never work in this town again” pressure with some people in power taking advantage of their position over others. I actually got that once when I was working as a PA on a show and the assistant AD didn’t like me. It’s a very powerful statement to make to someone trying to break into a competitive field where everyone knows each other.

Who?

I have no idea who he is either -- I'll find out now...

Long time member of Magnum...sounds like not a nice guy to work for.

The other problem he has is with some images from Thailand brothels that may contain images of minors -- I'll have to read up on that. I would not think journalistic images would run afoul of such problems. The image are removed from Magnum's website. Interesting.

DAH is a pretty well known Magnum photographer, has contributed extensively to National Geographic magazine, is the publisher of Burn magazine, and has published several monographs. I just assumed most people here would have heard of him.

I don’t even know what a magnum photographer is.

Sounds like an arsehole. Imagine quite a few photographers took advantage of their models. Hope a few more are found out an exposed as pathetic humans they are.

I don't have any great interest in any profession photographer and usually have to google their name to see what they do. Infact before joining here I didn't know a single one or anything they did. Im always happy to be enlightened.

Hi guys, please don't sound so "who?", it just makes you look... provisional ;-)

I mean, even you do not know what Magnum is, or who DAH is, google is your friend. It doesn't make you stand above.

Anyway, DAH is a great photographer, and an excellent workshop teacher. Unfortunately, it the allegations are true, then... :-/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnum_Photos

You may recognize some of these names from their members list:
  • Henri Cartier-Bresson (founder)
  • Robert Capa (founder)
  • Elliot Erwitt
  • Bruce Davidson
  • Bruce Gilden
  • Josef Koudelka
  • Martin Parr
  • Alec Soth
  • W. Eugene Smith
  • Alex Webb
  • And many more

I googled it, and recognized probably only two of the names. Erwitt and Bresson. But that still doesn' tell me much about what magnum does or what it's purpose is. From my brief search, it looks like just another club for the elitist's.

What you think of me is none of my business.

He could run for governor.

Of a big state. Maybe one with a large city. The Big Pear or something.

Look here. I revel in my bumpkin-es. Only magnum I know comes in a bottle...or a shell.

This was news last December.

Araki, the famous Japanese photographer, is praised for similar behavior. Wonder why.
