New here. Anyway, after looking on the Chicago craigslist i think i found a great sale for darkroom equipment. My question to all of you is what do you think is a good price to offer to the seller and also if possible,please elaborate on you price idea. link is below...

Make an offer usually means the seller wants to much. Your experience may be different. Except the the Durst and the print washer, $50 to $75.

The Durst is a great enlarger but now a days, almost nothing brings in much. The print washer will get the most in relation to original cost and could easily go for more than $100. However, I was given one for free by a complete stranger on APUG.

So, $200 or $300 would be a good price, but, my bet the seller is thinking of $1000+.

An 11x14 Zone VI washer just sold on ebay for $108 + shipping, a year ago they were going for 200+. I agree with Fotch that the seller probably has his sights set much too high, and that 2 - 3 hundred is probably a realistic price given the market.
Sad but true, offer 200, and see where it goes. The worst that can happen is that he'll say "no".

I have to agree with others. "Make Offer" usually means that the seller has an overly optimistic number in mind.

Keep in mind that many big enlargers are changing hands in the "come and get it before I take it to the dump" price range....With this in mind, $200~400 would seem quite fair depending upon condition and whether key accessories are present.

I would at least email an offer, or, if convenient, go in person. Start lower than the max you set for yourself. It will either be a Go or No Go. Discipline yourself to not get caught up in the moment and pay more than you intend, as is common with auctions.

FWIW, I just won a 90mm RB67 C lens for $70.00 plus shipping using an Ebay offer - 22% less than the Buy it Now price.

And it is in Canada .

It never hurts to offer a realistic price for an entire set-up like that. By realistic, I mean a price that is in line with the currant market will bear. That being said, I would start around $225, and keep tight lipped about what your upper limit is. For an upper limit, I would stop at probably cut off at $400, this being totally dependant on the condition of the most important pieces offered, the enlargersand lenses. I've seen Schneider and Rodenstock glass for $10-$20, and Besseler 23"s going for free.The rest of the items,would more than likely end up in the landfill. There are quite a few folks out there just giving these things away, or tossing them out. I have bought three complete darkrooms for a sum total of less than $400 for all combined. Use your judgement, and trust yourself to make a good deal.

The question I have is, "Do you want the equipment?" If so, why not make an offer to buy it, rather than trying to steal it. Depending on the accessories, and the condition of the gear, I'd say you would be in the very good deal category anywhere under about $700 and still would be in the decent deal category at maybe a little more. My guess is that if this person is getting out of the wet darkroom business, you likely will end up with much more than he is advertising. In other words, my bet is that you will end up with even more stuff for no addition dollars. Bill Barber

I think most of the prices at about $400-500 are pretty realistic. It doesn't matter if the enlarger was $10k new.It's not new any more & the realistic market for a darkroom is way less than the cost of the enlarger.
People still list B600's over and over for more than they sold for new

A year ago I got a Beseler 45 MXII enlarger with color head for less that $20.

I decided to just let it run and said screw it since I was able to find two other sales that were more closer to where I live. Thanks everyone though for all the advice and ideas
