Red Safelights

Both Adox fine print Vario classic and Fotokemika papers call for a dark red safelight
I have some Kodak 1A’a , which were safe enough for lith film but only one Kodak no. 2.Anyone have any experience with either of these papers as to how dark is dark red.

The 1As will probably work fine. People are reporting that OCs work if exposure is limited to a few minutes. I use a home grown safelight which has a spectrum close to that of 1As, and I haven't had any problems. In any case, do a safelight test to be sure.

So now it's DARK RED. Slavich and Emaks instructions
went only to RED. These last two though, as they are Graded
papers, work fine with the usual Graded paper safelights;
yellow to orange.

I suggest you work a little with the papers using the
safelights you've on hand. Keep emulsion exposure
to safelight at a practical minimum. Then go from
there. Dan

I've only used RED safe lights over the last 40 years, and have never had a problem fogging any of the papers that I 've used.

I should hope not. Personally I'd consider myself 40
years unnecessarily handicapped. I like a darkroom
as little dark as possible so use Graded paper.
They allow a high level of yellow to orange
darkroom lighting. Dan
