its time to replace my dads old screen. it is 30+ years old and its just time for a new one. now, Size does matter (dont let a lady tell you otherwise. I've heard them after many drinks at book club talking the truth) so I'm looking at an 84x84 or 96x96 as I project med format slides as well as 35mm. i have no idea what screen type the old one is as the box is long gone and as far as i can remember there was no model info on the screen (im not at home as I type this). but there are many screen types available for Da-lite screens and there is a major cost difference.

They screen will be set up in a largish room with many windows, so all projections would be done at night, with only ambient outside light to leak in, so pretty much dark. the MF projector is a hasselblad pcp-80 so plenty of light power being projected.

so for screens, I always figured a plain matte screen is best but with so many choices, I would rather do it right the first time then have buyers remorse over what I should have gotten. as such cost is not a major issue, albeit it does factor in. I did read a post here about the high power screens but have found little info on the new about them. so I figured I would ask those of you who still do project what is the best screen?

if you need more info please ask.

Years ago I bought a Da-Lite Versatol portable screen in Silver, and recently I bought a larger 84" x 84" Model C wall mount in Matte White. I used and continue to use the Silver screen in small rooms (usually around 10 to 14 feet deep) for small groups, and I use the Matte White Model C in a larger 25-foot deep room.

Regardless of the reflective numbers, I feel the white screen is brighter, and the colors more accurate. Perhaps that’s because I’m not always on-axis in small rooms, or maybe I’m looking at the white or lighter portions of the image, which don't seem as bright on the silver surface. If I bought another screen, it would be Matte White.

I like the lenticular screens. They are brighter.

Lenticular screens tend to be brighter of they're viewed near the central portion of the screen. If the viewer is off to the side, it dims.
The cause is the slightly curved surface of the lines on the screen.
