I just noticed there is an expiry date on my packages of D-76. How is this possible? Shouldn't an unopened package of D-76 last indefinitely?

I would think the expiration date protects EK from an indefinite warranty on the usefullness of the product.

I remember reading that powder is not infinite altough it can last a long time.

I have a lot of powder chems with en expiry date of 2013 in stock (D76, Xtol, Dektol). I will comfortably go 3 years beyond that but that's about it. As I understand, the Kodak bags do let some air through. I you want to make 100% sure it's good for let's say 10 additional years, I would keep them in two Ziplocs and in the fridge (not in the freezer).

Chemicals are fairly cheap. I wouldn't mind losing 5.99$ on D76...
