I have been using Photographers Formulary original 2-part liquid cyanotype solution to make prints on linen. I have read that it is archival on paper, but trying to determine if it is also archival on linen?

Also, I have read that if print fade it is safe to place it in direct sun to darken the image. Is there any negative effect of continued UV exposure on the image i.e will it continue to darken over time? It has been washed and rinsed well according to the instructions.

Thank you for any insight.

It's quite the opposite. A cyanotype will FADE with continued exposure to uv (sun).

As for permanence on linen, you have to absolutely avoid washing it in wash products that are alkaline as that will bleach the cyanotype. However finding wash products that are acid or guaranteed neutral ... Good luck

If it's not going to be a6 item that requires washing, it'll be as archival as the linen, so long as it's not exposed to direct uv, I'd expect.

Thank you very much for your reply--this is helpful. It will not be washed, it's an artwork and framed under UV plexi. I appreciate the information!

It's the other way round. If it fades in the sun, placing it in the dark can bring the image back supposedly.

This is advice often given in all the online resources or altprocess textbooks I've looked at,but it's never worked for me!

I was sceptical myself. Never tried it.
