I like to use manual focus lenses on my F5. Digital too........ Have a couple chipped so I can use the matrix meter and other modes but always end up shooting manual anyway. You can buy some wonderful glass for a pittance since manual focus is so difficult.

I set the F5 aside for a while, concentrating on some of my other cameras, primarily my Canons and my Bronica.

I did find myself taking it out on occasion to just hold it, though. Not creepy at all...

Now, a friend and I are going to try out my new Tetenal C41 kit on some rolls he has, and I want to run a couple of my own at the same time (I mean, really. I bought the kit, ya know...)
So, I think I'll use the F5 with the current Kodak 80-210 lens to fire off a roll (the other one is complete, in my 1n).
After taking a few photos with this camera, I decided to go ahead and pick up a 28-105. I think I'm gonna use this baby a bit more than I'd expected. I'll still sell it if offered a fair price, but it'd be a shame to see such a pristine hunk o' hardware sit and collect dust.
The other thing was, the contents of the viewfinder seemed a bit blurry to me, and I finally figured out how to work the diopter... now it's great!

I also picked up the ingredients for caffenol, but that's another thread, and I'll probably use my Canonet more for that stuff.

I've used the CH mode one time on my F5 just to see how fast it is. Dayum!!!! You cannot let go of the shutter fast enough. By the time I realized and let go it ran through 6 frames. Here's 5 of 'em.

Lucky stiff..! "Keep it", say I and start off with a Voigtlander 40mm Ultron as the perfect street lens. Or, if you can find a good copy, the old AIS Vivitar Series 1 zooms were highly considered--if the Nikon is too spendy. Good camera!

PS--Maybe you can score an adapter for your Canon glass?

Favorite lens I have used with the F5 was the 85mm 1.8g...

Wow. Autofocus is fast and the F5 just nails exposures. What a great camera.

I sold mine as the heft was medium format territory. I now own a Pentax 645n

Wow, to an OM user that looks like a hernia about to happen. Sould be a stable platform for most lenses. With that much mass the shutter/mirror vibration must be about nil. Price sounds about right too, KEH has an 'EX' condition body for $299.

Weight isn't really an issue for me, and it just feels so *gooooood*.
Just got the pristine 28-105 lens in the mail today, with caps and a hood. Gonna burn a roll or three tomorrow for the Tetenal kit.
Compared to the old Kodak Gear 80-200 glass, this thing is right snappy!

I was giving some advice to a fellow customer, at a large used bookstore (2nd & Charles), about a camera he'd been eyeballing, when I saw something else... I quickly smiled and handed the guy over to the clerk who'd just arrived to look at a Nikon under the glass. I've been mostly a Canon shooter since the '90s, but don't have a real sense of brand loyalty. It's just what I'm used to.
But... this was an apparently unused F5 for just over three bills, so I snatched it up.

I took her home, checked her out inside/out... every bit as clean. No apparent wear on the hotshoe or grip material. Woot!
This can go either of two ways: If someone has a nice EOS 1v they're willing to swap, I'd gladly do so... or I'll just find a decent walking-around lens for the Nikon and use it for a while. Always good to be familiar with different systems, even if you already have a primary one.

Th f5 is one of my favorite bodies. Fits my hands nicely and it has a lot of nostalgia for me. I hope that you enjoy the camera and get a chance to shoot it often.

Personally I prefer the 35mm to the 50.
