If I find myself there this summer, how might I best take advantage of the opportunity?

The girls (and women in general) in Split are a sight to behold - with no disrespect for the women meant, quite the contrary

If you're based in Dubrovnik, visit Lokrum (small island near Dubrovnik), there's a nice botanical garden there... Just a quick excursion from Dubrovnik.
Then island Korcula and a visit to Split, to see the Diocletian's palace. And the girlsThe girls (and women in general) in Split are a sight to behold - with no disrespect for the women meant, quite the contrary
I grew up in Split, so I should know
From Split you have good ferry connections to island Hvar. Hvar is quite a place to visit - do also visit Starigrad on the island of Hvar while you're there - Petar Hektorovic's Rennaisance villa is nice - see here, for example.
And I'm quite sure you won't be disappointed and food and wine
The beer is OK - we have most popular brands (Heineken, Beck's, Corona, you name it), so you'll survive. But I still recommend the wine. People who lived in these parts for almost three thousand years preferred the wine - must be some very good reason for that
BTW, let me know if this trip materializes, we could probably meet - I'll probably be on the island of Hvar. It would be nice to meet another LF-er!
