This entire thread, originally intended to be a discussion of the different philosophies and possible constructive application of "criticism and comments", has degenerated to the point where there is nothing new posted. Those that disagree with me have become numbinlgy repetitious - as I have. Each of us have made their views abundanty clear.

A few last comments from me:

Photography - and Art - have been an immense source of pleasure and joy to me. Hopefully I will be able to share that with others. I refuse to operate in an atmosphere that is not positive: my goal is to inspire and motivate.

An observation ... when someone says, "This is not personal", I wonder why that statement must be made. Certainly, in the mind of the writer there must be some risk of having it taken that way.

My work has been described as, "Sickening", "Bad", "Hopeless", both publically and in personal e-mails. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but IF I suggest something different ... I "just don't get it", or "I am impossibly difficult to converse with. - or I am "incredibly defensive." I don't think so ... I merely disagree.

When I disagree with some of the comments, there has been an automatic assumption that "I haven't been paying attention", or "I refuse to see the other guy's point of view." In the minds of some others, disagreement is not acceptable... they know the TRUTH, and nothing else is possible. If I, or anyone else disagrees, they are being dishonest, difficult, defensive.

I don't pay attention? How else would I be able -, in my feeble, inarticualte, incoherent, way - to reply at all?

I have just received a *very* lengthy reply - sharply citical of the length of my replies. Longest message I've seen yet.

Enough, This is a "rant" ... and serves no useful pupose. I am NOT an evangelist. I do not hold any hope of changing the philosophies of others. Reciprocally, this thread has not much chance of affecting mine.

Unless I see something new and fresh, something other than repetitions of previous messages, I will not continue HERE.

Please remember: "You cannot convert a man, simply by silencing him."

Ed - did you ever try looking at the synthetic Macbeth Color Checker chart I linked to for you for checking your color display/balance, or did that get lost in the debate?

kirk, it is tough to type on a computer whilst nailing yourself to a cross . colour charts would have simply have been in the way.

Ed, you appear (to me) to assume the position of paranoid willing victim when it is neither neccessary nor a true representation of how others see you. There seems to be an inherent assumption that people are trying to silence you or railroad your art. IMHO the prickly defensiveness that results from this is what spawns the resonses you perhaps deem to be confirmation of this. Those who disagree with you and explain why are entitled to do so, however you appear to interpret that as an attack on you and a snub to your personal philosophy. It is no such thing and people who strongly disagree with you are no more trying to force you to see things their way than you are forcing them to see things your way. It has been interesting to largely sit this one out, but it just seems that any disagreement with you results in you internalising what is essentially an open debate more and more with the innevitable result that it becomes about you and your philosophy holding out in the Alamo against the whole world. Ed, you may feel holed up (with 20 years of food and water) and ready to shoot anyone approaching, but nobody is coming. Honest!

I realise this is rich coming from me:wink:

Jorge - I hope this doesn't turn into a critique of JP Witkin's work!

Woops -- re: MacBeth Color Checker/ Kirk Keyes.

Not yet. I'm "wringing out" Ultrafine color paper at the moment. I've been trying to get a Kodak "Super Gray Card", per the recommendation of Helen B. When I do, I'll take a ride to a local lab, where they have a sophisticated Reflecting Spectrophotometer. They owe me favor - I took a thorn out of their paw once.
While I'm there I'll check out what they have for color standards.

Great! Could you send me a copy of the data? I'm always interested in this sort of stuff.

As I've said, when there is something new here I will respond. I've read all of this over and over again. I do not mind disagreement - my views are probably NOT 'of the mainstream" so it is to be expected. - I thrive on the differences between us ... but this is nothing but constant repetition, and simply, not worth a reply.

A test for Ed Sukach...

Since Ed was doing a study on people doing comments, I figure I'll do a test on Ed...

He reminds us how he won't respond by responding...

Here's my test... Can you walk away and not have the last word?

During all this, one label applied to me was "Weird" -- I suppose intended in a derogatory sense...

Food for thought ... what is the definition of "weird"? My Funk and Wagnalls links it to to "fate" and "The Fates, a la' Shakespeares' The Tempest, but I think in modern usage it is more like, ... "Unusual", "Out of the ordinary - mainstream", "Unique" ... "Mysterious, Unexplainable".
Not bad. I think that is really more of a "high" compliment to a photographer or artist than it is the intended insult insult/ semi-insult.

Someone .. Dr. Bergen Evens, of "All about Words" (listened to that program faithfully, returning from skiing on Sundays during the winters of the '70's and '80's- nothing else on the car radio) maintained that the only ones that EVER advanced the Civilization of Man, were the "weird ones." The people that went with the flow - the "unweird", never innovated - never changed anything - never HAD to.

If I revisited a student of mine five years after I was actively associated with her/him, and found that MOST thought her/him to be "weird" in those terms ... that would be cause for celebration; and If most thought that way about me -- I don't know if I could expect a higher compliment.

Where was that thread; "What kind of photographer are you?" I would claim to be ... "weird".

Really!! Why don't you tell me about them, Blansky. I might be able to help you deal with them. Better still, consult a Psychiatric Clinic ... there must be one of them in your area.
