I never had an interest, but then a friend of mine started one. It's a great way (another avenue) to showcase new work, while at the same time, keeping your main website lean and mean. So I created one... as mentioned, they are free.

I think I might jump in on this. I became completely disillusioned with Blipfoto when I started shooting film, and this could be handy way to encourage me to shoot frequently.

Just use blogspot or wordpress like everyone else.

Wordpress.com gets my vote. I host my own install on nearlyfreespeech.net (almost free), but it works great as a photoblog. It may be a little more than you need, but if you intend to mix photo/text posts it's the only way to go.

I'm a little behind on posts, but I've found blogspot.com to be rather easy to use. I don't have a means of tracking hits and such like Alex mentioned though... something to think about if you're starting from scratch. http://shawndougherty.blogspot.com/

Alex, that is because the blog looks Great! I am very impressed, just set up one in the last week at WordPress, but as Shawn mentioned Blogspot is nice also. Either one works..

The Stats tracking is a feature of the WordPress stuff. Its very handy for showing where the hits on your site are coming from and what entries are being viewed.

The best way to maintain a blog is to keep a text file of ideas on your computer and a folder full of images that have already been resized for the blog. Makes doing a post a piece of cake, and you always have something to say when you are in the mood to post.

I use blogspot, too. You can add software that will track things for you, Shawn.
Go to statcounter.com, create and account, and somewhere in your settings you can cut and paste the software code from statcounter. If you look along the right side of my blog at the bottom... it says "thanks for stopping by", that's where the code resides. I had to put something out there.

It's easy to add.

It's the theme I'm using, though I can't remember the name of it. It's the only one listed under "Photography" though.

Missed this... thank you, Alex. It's been a difficult month, but at 99, it was her time.

As for blogs... I find the discipline of maintaining a blog great for my own creative juices, and I like to read about the process others work out in their own photography, so I have a "blog roll" of the blogs I read each morning over coffee. That said... you didn't realize I had it for 2 years because I did not really market it, but I've been in a pretty good groove with it for now, so having a few regular readers feels great!!
