Correct dev time for Rollei RPX25 with Ilfosol3 ? Update at #12

I just noticed the dev time of Rollei RPX 25 with Ilforsol 3 is different inside the box / the data sheet

The box (also the data sheet from Rollei) says 1+19 for 5min at 20C .



But from here , it says 1+9 for 5min at 20C.

So which dilution is correct?

I would feel more comfortable using Rollei's data. That said, it's best to work out your own times.

Massive Dev Chart says 1:9 as well. It might just be a typo in the box.

The Massive dev chat's info is refer to Rollei data sheet from 2015, while the current data sheet version is 2021 ...
should I just follow the new one ?

The MDC has both good data and unreliable data in it, and it is often difficult to differentiate between them.
Always approach the MDC with caution.

Ilfosol 3 is diluted either at 1+9 or 1+14. I have used it form many years and I never heard of 1+19 so I would assume it is a typo.

5 mins at 1+9 @ 20C sounds right.
I know 1+14 isn't listed for your film but I would think if it was it would be around 7.5mins.

The more I think about it, the more I don't feel comfortable with the dilution and time inside the box. The 1+19 is most likely a typo. 1+9 at 5 min. would make more sense... but if it were me, I'd go with 1+14 at around 9.5-10.5 minutes, 20C. I've always stayed away from short development times.

Ive only used it ilfosal 3 with Rollie 25 once. It was 5 minutes at1:9.

Rollie 25 is very contrasty film and builds up density in the high lights very quickly.

Depends on what you are photographing, here is a few examples, notice in a high contrast scene on the second there is too much density in the highlights. You really have to be careful with ilfosal 3 not to over develop the highlights.

I never ever developed film at that temperature though. Instead, I used ice to cool the water, and even kept containers of water in the fridge.

Update : it worked and worked well !


Ilfosol 3 in 1+14 at 23C for 4:30. 5 inversions at each minutes.
Ilfostop for 10s
Rapid Fixer for 4:30,
Washed with water and dishwashing detergent at the end and raised with tap water



The base slightly pale bule. But overall is clear.

Yea, the temperature is getting hotter these days and its getting more troublesome . But I really prefer 25-27C for shorter developing time, especially using Ilford's Microphen or Perceptol.
