Hot linking can be easily stopped so need of copyright notice for that purpose.
Digimarc can be removed by those in the know.
And your images harboured have nothing to do with web sites unless you put them there for people to get at.

The main purpose of the copyright on a web page is for the actual design of the web site itself which can be copied and reused and is worth far more than a few low res jpegs.
If people want to use my images on their web page I won't lose any sleep over it. Infact I would be flattered that they wanted use them. That doesn't mean I'm giving them permission but I simply don't think its worth worrying about unless you put high res images on the web and even then they would have to be very special for someone to want to use them commercially and actually make any money out of them. If it worries you then make sure they are small enough and no one will steal them becuase they are useless except for intended purpose which is on a web page.

Perhaps it's a cultural thing. I don't live in a such a litigious society as you do. Mind you, I think we're catching up. Can't think why we would want to follow that route but the idiot Blair opened the flood gates and there's no turning back now.
