I have a 14E that has a broken pin that keeps the front of the shutter from rotating when changing speeds.

This pin is also where the self timer is anchored. It is the Achilles Heel of this shutter as far as I am concerned! I hate these shutters! It is a terrible design!

It looks as if it can be replaced. I have got as far as removing the self timer and have found the remainder of the pin/post floating around in the shutter.

Does anyone know how this pin is removed?

thanks!

I have repaired similar problems by soldering the pin in place. Where extra strength is needed the pin is drilled and a support pin put through the mount plate and into the pin with solder. Use silver solder if dissimilar metals are used.

As far as original installation it appears to have been braded in. It may have failed because its too hard/brittle.

By "braded-in", do you mean pressed or staked into the plate? That would make sense...

It does appear to be quite brittle. I might be able to run an end mill over it and then drill it out and put in a similar size pin or screw. but unless I totally disassemble the shutter, it will be fouled with chips and useless...

I think it failed because the inner surfaces of the shutter speed selector ring had tons of black, sticky grease (maybe graphite mixed with grease?) that caused the ring to be very difficult to turn. The torque eventually fatigued the metal and it snapped off. That's my theory anyway...

Damn, another "box it and wait" camera. Wish I would hit the lottery and retire. I have too many back-burner projects piling-up. It gets frustrating when I can't find a sustained period of time to solve some of these more complex repair issues.

The flesh is willing but...

That part lying on the shutter looks to me as once being riveted to a mounting plate, with the rivet end at the right. Thus I wonder what part still is fixed and has to be drilled out.

I might have stumbled onto a bit of luck: a New old stock (NOS) Copal SVE replacement shutter intended for the Mamyia Super Deluxe Rangefinder.

It will have to be removed from the lens barrel assembly of the Mamyia and rehoused into the Yashica 14 body, but hopefully I can pull that off successfully.

We shall see...
