Copal shutter, not clicking when changing SS

I have a Fuji 210mm f/5.6 in a Copal 1 shutter. I was shooting today when the ring for selecting shutter speed got ”declicked”. Before it had distinct clicks or stops between every shutter speed setting but now it moves smoothly over all shutter speeds.

All shutter speeds working without problem, the problem is the shutter got ”declicked”.

Anyone here have any idea what might have brooken and if it is a easy DIY fix?

Have you tried playing with the shutter with the front lens block removed?

Perhaps also try removing it from the lensboard too.

Sometimes, things can get overtightened... Or perhaps something has become loose...

I can't remember specifically how the shutter speed ring indexes. To find out, you need to 1) remove front cell; 2) remove or half-turn the screw holding the retaining ring; 3) unscrew the retaining ring. You can then lift the name plate and check the speed setting ring.

If you want to risk removing the face plate -- pretty easy -- you'll see a ridged plate which rotates as the shutter speeds are selected. The cog that should run along the outer edge of this ridged plate appears to be stuck or out of place. or the spring is loose or who knows what. Might be an easy fix.

I see two screws when removing the front lens cell, one is locked with screw locking lacquer. Which of the screws holds the front plate?

The screw with the lacquer holds the notched retaining ring. The other is not a screw but a pin to properly locate front plate when you put it back.

You can mark the retaining ring where it meets the locking screw to put it back at the same spot. It's not overly critical but the ring should not be too loose: it preloads the speed setting cam.

If you need to remove the speed setting cam pay good attention on how it is placed. It's pretty straightforward but it needs to properly catch a few pins in the inside mechanism.

Finally had time to fix the issue

Not shure what it is called but it act like a cam shaft when the shutter speed setting ring is turned. I did a marking in the photo so you all can see what I am talking about. This pin had come loose because the shutter speed setting ring was not tightened enough.

It was a simple fix.
