I find that using developers to lower contrast often produces much more pleasing results than using the lower filters, so I use Selectol Soft or add a bromide solution to whatever developer I am using.

Low contrast development with VC papers can be a good idea given the shape of the HD curve for low contrast VC filtration. Look at the bumps and flat spots in the lower grades:

Beginner has to ask beginner questions, as I just have my densitometer and still testing my BTZS charts.

Minor question - is the bottom (horizontal) scale reflect a tablet scale.

More important, I do not get your assertion. The curves reflected the paper characteristics. Is there instead we shall look at a diagram of curves say using all 00 and 5. For the 00, it should then compare, say 30s, 1m, 2m, 4m, 8m and so is 5 (which I assume you need to double the time of exposure but still developed for 30s, 1m, 2m, 4m and 8m.
