Hi All,
I have been looking online everywhere on how to remove the aperture mount (dial) on a used Contax Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.4. There are no screws on the rear... see photos. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew

FYI: I tried taking all the screws in the back but that did not help.

I'm not sure how they differ from the ROLLEI lenses but on those 1.4 lenses, there are some screws around the focus ring, that when removed, allow the focus helicoid to be unscrewed. The double helix focus mechanism of different pitches will likely get out of whack, so re-assembly can be tedious to get the infinity back to the right spot.

I would tell you you need special tools, this one looks like you need to unscrew the ring that has the lens info etched onto it, usually round piece of rubber is used to do that, however, if you never did that before, you will run a high risk of damaging the glass elements, with this lens paying for the repair might be a better idea.

Good luck, either way you choose to do it.

I sincerely don't know, but could you please expand on your reason for doing this? This is my favourite lens (of any format), and I eagerly read anything written about it.

I have bought a series of used zeiss lens to use for video on a Canon 5D Mark 2 (modified a little as the auto aperture piece will scrape the insides of the camera a little).

I would like to take out the metal ball that is used for aperture clicks as I would like smooth aperture dial. Did not realize this particular lens was so tough to remove... unlike the other Contax Zeiss lens... which is quite easy (as I have done so already).

Thanks for the thoughts so far everyone. Unless I hear back from someone on a easier solution or a step by step guide... I might just leave the lens alone. It does work great just no adjusting the aperture smoothly for video. I love the look of Zeiss lens

I would be careful with it. It's not a cheap lens to be messing around with..
