Contax G1 is the lens or body not working?

Hello guys

I have a Contax G1 and the Body without a lens on works just fine, the distance etc. is right and it fires the shutter in af and mf modus. But when I attache a lens on it, the nthe mf does not work everytime and also the af does not work when the camera is pointed in portrait mode (camera is vertical).

I love the system and the lenses so I want to buy a "new" one, but I don't know if its the lenses (I have the 28 and the 45) or the body. It also makes weird noises, when the Af is working.

If I new I could just buy a new body or a new lens.

Can someone help me?

If I had to guess I'd say it's in the contacts between the camera and the lens itself. I have two G1's and there have been times I had to clean the contacts in the camera and on the lens. Yes, I've had it happen on both G1 setups. I'd be willing to bet that your body is just fine, but the contacts or the lens may be the quilty party.

If the problem happens with either of your two lenses it is most likely the body.

If it only happens with one lens it is the lens.

Unless you are very unlucky and both lenses are busted. Or both lenses and the body...
