Constantinople Extreme Large Panoramas from 1900s and how to do them ?

I saw 2 meters long stitched panorama card postals from 1900s taken at Bosphorus side. They were covering a large coastal area and I asked myself how someone succeeded to do such a work. If camera is stable never moved , I can understand but I think camera carried from one place to other.
How a photographer succeed to get continuous stitched image ? I cant do that even with a digital camera and may be GPS ?

Stitching was possible back then, it took a lot of planning and a lot of skill dodging and burning to get the joins lining up without looking crap.
Check out the story of the top photo here, about Oscar Rejlander (who may not have invented post-processing, but he was photoshop back when most others could barely use a crayon). He managed to combine allegedly over 30 negative to a single shot, and the only place it looks a little bit dodgy is on the left.
If you look really closely at the photo, you'll probably see the joins, but at a distance it might be unnoticable.
Or maybe it is just a single photo taken with a really wide angle, like a Hyperogon or something?

One friend sent me a pm and tell me to have a look to cirkut camera. Dr.Croubie , thank you for the link , its made my day. Such an excellent work , had it been collection of closely taken portraits put on to the print or is it a collection of distant taken many images ? Now there are new question arises ?

Pan cameras existed as far back as 1840, but it sounds like a "cirkut" camera photo which was shot by a rotating panoramic camera capable of doing shots over 360 degrees. Kodak made a fair amount of them, and they could shoot great photos. I have a bunch that I still use. Some people did do "stitched" prints from multiple negs, but after 1900 that was rarer as the special cirkut cameras could do a seamless continuous shot

Good evening Jamie , I watched an documentary and I learned our Ottoman Empire was ordering these - largest panoramic postcard in the world - for the visit of Russian Tsar. Do cirkut cameras takes like ULF camera or does it reveal a curve or curved distorted lines ? I dont know where to learn the details ? I think I am going to write to the tv program , it seems to me film was ortho.
