DF sent me a copy of his graph and the conderser enlarger did show a greater slope (i.e. "more contrast") when compared to the diffusion enlarger. Additionally, his diffusion enlarger gave equivalent results to his densitometer. These findings are completely consistant with the explaination I gave above when comparing different geometrical arrangments of light source and sensor placement in densitometer design.

And they also show why you want to develop your film for a higher CI if you are using a diffusion enlarger (or contact printing) than if you are using a condenser enlarger.
