Well any thread that includes a rant by Blansky AND someone (Helen B) quoting Poly Styrene has its own Essential Logic, and will no doubt be locked soon. Maybe it is time we all gathered together and sipped from the Rodinal-laced Kool Ade (don't worry, pyro users, the Kool Ade turns it into a staining developer, and the plus is you can vary the color of the stain by which flavor you pick!)
 
Actually Michael, I have parental Tourette's. Sometimes everything seems quite PUT THAT DOWN normal and then at DID YOU HEAR WHAT I SAID? fairly random times things will STOP SQUEAKING THAT BALLOON occur that I really have no STOP IT control STOP IT over STOP IT. Mostly when I'm on WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT? the phone.

And another thing, what’s with these people that have posted 1200 posts in four months. That’s 300 posts a month divided by 30 days,…… well that’s an awful lot of posts. This is exactly what I’m talking about. Lives in the basement, yaps on the computer all day, saying absolutely nothing to any poor slob who has the misfortune to have logged on, and now I have to bloody scroll through 4000 unread posts by these goofballs who probably don’t even own a camera. As if they have time to take any pictures and now I’ve wasted half a day reading these slacker posts.

Great, I’ve suffered through 2 years of Azo Azo Azo up the wazoo and now we’ve got to hear these mutts yammering about Rodinal, Rodinal Rodinal. Christ when will it all end. These posers can’t even take a half assed interesting picture of anything and they are arguing about this developer is better that that developer, and this one works best when you do this, or it works better when you do that. WHAT THE HELL DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? The picture is going to suck anyway. Since most of them are using their bathroom as a darkroom why not just develop the stupid film in the toilet after a good long piss and be done with it.

Then we have the whiners that are always boo- hooing about digital. Digital’s coming, digital’s coming, run for your lives. Let’s face it, in a couple of years, you poor fools are gonna be sitting on your hemorrhoid cushion, all alone in your pathetic darkrooms, developing your glass plates or the last of your hoarded film, that your had to steal from the other old bugger who hoarded his stuff and finally croaked. You probably found out where he lived and broke into his shack and made off with ten cases of half rat eaten boxes of HP5. Whew. Good for another year.

You see a bunch of analoggers together and it looks like a goth convention gone horribly wrong. Everyone white as a ghost from ten thousand boring hours in the darkroom and fingertips the color of some old hooker’s who chain smoked unfiltered Camels for the last 66 years.

You ever see the 8x10 crowd or the 12x40 crowd or whatever they hell they are. They all shuffle along with a stoop, because they are hopelessly old and decrepid, and have one shoulder higher than the other because they’ve been packing 150 pounds of camera equipment up some stupid mountain or other, trying to pretend that they’re Grizzley Adams, or whatever the hell his name was.

And then there’s this incessant zone system this and zone system that. I feel like I entered the twilight zone. Here’s a clue, use your stupid light meter. That’s what it’s there for. Take the stupid picture. What the hell, maybe you can jazz it up in photoshop if you ever get your dumb ass down from this mountain.

And don’t even get me started on these children’s photographers, this syrupy………….DID YOU JUST FLUSH THE TOILET?

MOM, DAMN IT. I WAS DEVELOPING SOME……………….I swear to God, I’m gonna kill…………..

You know, Blansky ... I'm sitting here in front of this machine wondering ... or really, ATTEMPTING to determine whether these rants are some sort of Devil's Advocate, wiseass, pseudo-humorous jibes against APUG and all of the participants here ... or if you are REALLY SERIOUS.

If it is the former, I think you have overdone it, more than a little. I haven't been in the mood for a far overdone Don Rickles' bit for a while now. You complain about people using bandwidth .. with long a tedious rants ... and you are winding up as "the pot calling the kettle black".

If the latter, It seems that you cannot handle receiving your report card stating that you have flunked out of Anger Management Class... better "up" for another session ... you seem to need another one to help you handle existing in this world.

Be all that as it may, one question surfaces .. or really two. First, I take this topic as a venue for serious consideration of the direction of APUG. This is one of the few sites I visit regularly, and enjoy on a regular basis, and I'll do all I can to help, wherever and whatever appropriate. That does not include sarcastic/ black humor/ venomous rants about the happenings here. Possibly you would be better suited for another topic; the Lounge, Humor ...?

Second, if APUG bothers you that much - why are you here? Not only can you scroll through the stuff that bothers you so much, you don't have to log on at all. Is someone there holding a gun to your head and clamping your eyelids open a la Clockwork Orange, forcing you to read all this?

Or are you looking for a few "whipping boys" to assert alpha male domination? If so I might suggest www.masochist.com as an alternate web site ... but APUG doesn't keep those in stock.

I'll only suggest that you "chill out" some ... If can. You seem, from what I read here, to be awfully "near the edge".

As with all humor there is an element of truth behind it. Or at least the speakers view of the truth. Yes I feel some of what Micheal says is exactly how he feels. Do I care, not a bit. Do I take it personally, not at all. Are there more important things going on in my life right now, you bet! I haven't lost the ability to laugh at myself and my identity is not wrapped up in this site or any other "club" I might belong to.

If you don't like what Micheal has to say, put him on your ignore list. It's just like channels on the TV I really don't like, I just program them out so I never see them when I'm aimlessly surfing around. Life is as simple as you choose to make it.
 
I think Michael is just trying to see if he can set a record for getting threads locked up this week. I think he's up to two so far. Only Sean can give him what he really wants, though I'm sure the package from Jorge will arrive none too soon for Michael's family!

Actually, I think Mike's post was one of the funniest I've ever read! It achieves near greatness due to its truthfulness.

On the other hand, people on the site are passionate about photography. Technique and materials are an important part of the craft. And much easier to articulate than what motivates us to take the picture in the first place.

One other consideration I have is in the area of image.

I've met a few Film adherents and returnees, and have suggested APUG as a viable site to visit, noting our bent toward film and chemical: "Hey!! You'll really enjoy APUG! Great bunch of people there!".

I've already been in a conversation with one of them ... and her reaction to Blansky's posts has not been favorable. Her comment: "..And you like that sort of insulting and name-calling?"
Here I am, with doofus grin, "Uh well, heh, heh ... It's not always so contentious ... some of the participants are just having a little fun..."
I don't think she believed me. Not likely that she'll return.

If we wish to have "fun" like that. it might be an idea to set up a "Don Rickles" thread, so that everyone visiting will be warned and will be able to keep everything in the proper perspective.

That is if those posts were NOT meant to be linearly serious. So far I don't have an indication, either way.
