But as a rule especially in political argument the much weaker side tries to shift the subject to a different arena with the "But what about ... ?" tactic because they are loosing.

The average Japanese citizen was not given much choice in WWII. In fact, there is a square in Tokyo where they "lynched" Tojo and ended his regime at the end of WWII. As for "comfort women", they abound on both sides, but poorly regulated if at all on the US side of any of these wars.

BT! I won't say DT. But I know what went on on both sides. My boss was in the Bataan death march and other qualifications make me at least more knowledgeable than the average bear.

What flavor of fanatic theology entitles some folks to define "apology" for everyone else?

America has even more innocent blood on its hands as a result of mass genocide of Native Americans than Japan has for its Philippine atrocities.

Sorry, you are wrong. We didn't slaughter Native Americans in a mass genocide, 90% died out as a result of being infected with diseases that they were not immune to. Certainly we didn't treat them as well as we should have, in many cases they were treated horribly but that doesn't equate to a genocide. The issue is MUCH more complex than "Europeans came to America and slaughtered everyone in their path..."
Not even close.

Can we try to keep threads about the photography? Is that too much to ask for? JTK, you want to talk about mistreatment of women in general (rape as a war crime, prostitution as a means of survival, genocide, etc....) Then start your own thread somewhere else. Thank you.

PS And people call my posts controversial.....seesh

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/mw-jacobs/california-genocide_b_10701772.html The reviewed book goes into full legal (United Nations) definition of "genocide" and documents that genocide in California. I happen to have read it when first published...I'm interested in the topic partially because I compete athletically (archery) with a few hundred Native Americans.

Holocaust denial is of course more fun for some folks than others.

On the death marches the Japanese officers on horse back just lopped of heads of captured soldiers, a violation of Geneva convents. Japan also tortured, enslaved and staved captured solders which was a violation of the Geneva conventions. The Japanese army also committed mass rape in China which is a violation of the Geneva conventions. Those are war crimes. And the list is quite long. What you are talking about is a war that the US should not have entered, but that is not a war crime. You need to do a little research before you post.

blah blah blah
violation of the Geneva conventions
... blah blah blah

you actually think people who commit autrocities care about geneva conventions ?
even bofore hte geneva conventions exixted and there were were war crimes tribunals
for example regarding the turks and the genocide they committed ( the word genocide was coined because of them )
nothing happened .. and the world shurgged its shoulders. and STILL 100+ years later the no admission of guilt / acknowledgment ...

people who commit autrocitities couldn't care less about international conventions .. genocidal mainiacs
even use them as examples ( hitler saying " the turks did it no one remembers the armenians " )
look at africa, the balkan wars .. the current thing in the middle east /south-central asia ///
if people cared about the geneva covention they wouldnt' do the stuff they do ...

and yes people living in the USA committed genocide against the aboriginal population.
no clue how anyone could say anythng different than that. massacring women and children in a swamp ?
using a small pox infected blanket as chemical warefare ?

revisionist histury is a real drag.

According to my friend and boss, who was on the Bataan death march, the Japanese were not the way portrayed above. They were often deferential to Americans. In fact, some of them went to school in the USA.

Of course any country violating the Geneva Conventions will not care. But that is not the point. The point is that General MacArthur gave the Japanese a pass on War crimes including the comfort women while General Eisenhower made sure that the local people saw the death camps and General Marshall had the war trails. Germany faced their past directly. Japan has only recently faced it and is still in denial.

exactly they don't care, so, whats the point ? higher ground ?
especially by a country that dropped atomic bombs on another country ..

Like it or not dropping the atomic bomb in not a war crime and never was. If the bomb had been perfected sooner it would have been dropped on Germany. It either case it would have shortened the war and saved lives.

May we assume you mean "losing" ?

@Sirius Glass: There is not a word in the English language, loosing. Think lose as in lost, loss, losing, all with a singular letter o.

As for figuring it out, that is not a readers job. Loosing for losing is a common spelling error, and many folks do not know that difference. You should see the spelling errors, punctuation errors and grammar errors coming across our desk; appalling. Thus JTK is attempting to be helpful; politely say "thank you" and learn from it.

Truly attempting to be helpful. We all make mistakes, certainly I do and I get called on them. When I am corrected I take it as a learning experience, or because I truly should have known better I slap my forehead calling myself a dumbo. Yes, my forehead has a permanent dent.

Here are words consistently misspelled or used in the wrong way. Such as:
Anxious when eager would be correct. Anxious and eager are at polar opposites
Is it compliment or complement
Jealous, 99.99% of the time envious or envy would be the correct word
Podium rather than lectern
Wind (such as wrapping) when the correct word is wend
We walk a bride down the nave not the aisle
and too many others as well.

Good chatting with you have a outstanding, NEW YEAR!

P.S. I will not be returning to this thread.

Yes, I made a typo. It just shows that like most of the rest of us that we are all human. At least I am able to figure out the intricacies of the shift key.

And I see that you managed to survive.

yup survived LOL <<<--- used SHIFT KEY
the shift key is not intricate at all, i just choose
not to use it, as i chooose to misspeel words once in
a while. if i could figure out how to do a "cut up" without typing on
a typerwriter and scanning it i would ...
i don't think the world is going to end because
of the way i type but unfortunately the world will end
when looooose cannons get/use atomic weapons ... :sideways: <<< wishing this was spinning
hopefully ... the solar flash will happen sooner rather than later
and make all electronics, utterly useless and save humanity from itself
as it is right now .. things aren't looking very good ..
thankfully for us "analog folks" mechanical cameras and wet prints will be in vogue again
but unfortunately, photrio will be in limbo .... cash in those bittscoins/creeptoKurrency !

One "looses" an arrow...vintage way of saying "shoots an arrow", bringing an insight into the process of pulling and releasing. Not common among non-archers

Most country's do not address their war crimes very well.
People in Vietnam are Still dealing with death and sickness from Dioxin Poisoning.....courtesy of the usa Military/Government.
Then there was the biggest war crime of all.....WWII itself.
