Just got a few rolls back from a out of state film processor and, while the processing appears to be fine, the base was hellishly dirty. I scrubbed the base with a cotton film glove and Edwal Film Cleaner as much as I dared, but there's still some residue. (see #3 for how dirty the film was returned).

NOTE: the processor does not advertise here on Photrio and is located somewhere between Dallas and Kansas City...

Anyway, a couple examples of Kodak Colorplus 200 at rated box speed, shot with a Nikon F100. Default scan values, other than sharpening on an Epson V750. These are just .jpg proofs of the roll.

The V750 seems to default to a cool color temperature when in film holder mode, but these are good enough to use as proofs and get a feeling of how the film stock looks.

Yup, that’s the look. I’ve never experienced hellish residue like you described.

only time I have seen that muc goop was when a now defunct company which was supposed to handle Eastman colour apparently ran a roll of mine through C-41.

It is slightly orange; blix?

Anyway, I am cleaning them but it takes some work...

A couple more examples. For inexpensive color negative, I have no complaints, but it is a tad bit... unsettling for some reason.

Try processing the images with negativelabpro.com
They have a free trial. I have been very happy with the colour it has given me.

about the residue: i had some in a film a while ago.

i just washed it well with a lot of running water and a drop of dish soap in the begining.

do not scrub the emulsion side, of course.

Am I too late to this discussion?
When you say residue, can you post a photo of the neg strip?
Commercial C41 uses separate bleach and fix.
Could it be incorrect wash?
I noticed one of your images, the butterfly, has a lot of marks. Was it like that when you got the negs back?
Were the negs sleeved? (in plastic).
