After you've processed your test strip and are deciding what adjustments to make, it's a good technique to over correct color and exposure for your 2nd test strip. This will help alleviate the tendency to "creep" on adjustments. It can help save paper. Of course consistency in chemistry, temperature and development time is a given. Actually, once chemistry is consistent it is just moving paper from one place to another and turning lights on and off. I spent several years doing custom C, R, and Ciba prints in pro labs with roller transport machines but only did a few cibas in a roller tube home processor so I cant speak to that. Anyway that's what I have.

Firstly, thanks to all for your wonderful and insightful replies! also sorry if I did not come back earlier - I ran off to the darkroom to experiment
And I have to say I'm finally starting to make some progress, at least with some promising results. I could make a print that seems OK (the idea of using a safelight for color is superb)

Also contact sheets come out well:

For some films color correction is still quite off but normally I can set it without many problems.
Lastly, at the end of the session, I did a small experiment - absolutely un-scientific and with the available stuff I had in the darkroom. The result is not perfect but it looks promising! Who can guess what I did?

I don't know what you did but your results are very nice!

Now don't keep us in suspense.
