Are color film (for example, ECN-2 or other) short ends available from anyone these days?

Where would these shorts ends come frome?

The number of movies made on 35mm films per year is a 2-digit one.

It's not a huge supply I imagine, no. But apart from movies I can imagine that documentaries and educational work (ie student projects) could add a bit to the supply.
But I haven't come across many short ends when I looked for it. Just getting a surplus reel sounds like a more feasible option. Frame24 currently has 200ft rolls of 35mm 50D for a very attractive price.

I have yet to come across a film-making student to still be trained on a real film camera... "A long obsolete technique" a german dean said years ago.

Looking at the graduation projects at the closest cinema institute to me, there seem to be one or two every year at least shot on 35mm. Evidently it's a small minority.

People still shoot 35mm film. Not a lot of course. Commercials, music videos, there are a lot of things other than the few features where film still gets used. Back when I was renting mopic gear the best place to get short ends or re-cans was reelgoodfilm.com in Hollywood. I just checked, there website is still up, give them a call maybe they can help.

But the more off these projects are, the less chances are for the resting "ends" to show up again via a dealer.

Furthermore the users of 35mm cine film of whatever kind are likely for the majority located in the USA, which again reduces availability in other parts of the world.

I am already looked upon by european deans as weirdo. I better not start talking of 35mm cinematography.

The Vision3 5203 (50D) short roll that I got from frame24 some years ago had "SPECTRE" (and some other markings) written on the can

there are not as many places as their used to be. Kodak does keep a running list of Movies "shot on film" so there are a few theatrical productions, as well as the usual assortment of TV, Commercials, Music Videos, and "other films"

frame24 seems to be the folks who are most active in "resale" film in Europe.
