My thoughts:
You introduce several manipulations than could be of affect
-) splitting of the base
-) laminating to the canvas
-) pressing the emulsion and PE-layer into the weaving pattern
-) adding new material, the canvas (though likely seperated by the lamination layer)
-) adding a new surface by spraying or laminating
