Color Chemistry / Bleach & Redevelop question

As I was developing my disc film in D-76 yesterday, I was wondering about developing int in color, as it as definetely in good enough condition to do so.

If color (C41) film was developed in B&W dev, fixed, bleached (rehalogenating) and re-exposed to ligth, and then developed in C-41 chems, would it turn out in color, as the color developer would redevelop the bleached silver and couple it??

Is this possible, or am I thinking incorrectly?

You are correct.

It would work, but D76 may not be the proper developer for getting the best image. Due to the high sulfite content, the yellow layer will probably have a more profound solvent effect and the cyan will probably have the least. If this happens, it will probably lead to a C/Y or R/B crossover problem.

I'm really not sure.

I do know that colors will be dull, and sharpness and grain will be degraded, as there will be no significant DIR effects during color image formation. This will be prevented by having a pre-formed silver image.
