Wet Plate Collodion Videos:

Here's a link to my story and why I use the wet plate Collodion process. I give my history (the back story/context), show the process and interview a couple of my sitters. I made this for graduate school (3rd semester presentation).

It's a 36MB video (20 minutes) and it's a .WMV (Mac users need to have the appropriate software).

Potassium cyanide is used as a fixer for both positives and negatives. You can also use plain hypo or concentrated rapid fixer in place of the cyanide.

Quinn, that's wonderful. I grew up in Ogden and the places are very familiar to me. I think you chose the perfect process with which to portray your subjects. OCngratulations, I think it's extraordinary.

Collodion photography is one of the things I aspire to do. I don't have the place or the money to try it as a college student, though.

Absolutely. It's a strangely interesting town that way. Just like, I suppose, everywhere is interesting in it's own (perhaps very unique) way.

Hello Manuel,

Yes, I am in the process of setting up to do that now (what a process!!).

The language barrier and cultural differences are difficult to navigate when dealing with something like this. I'm not sure of all the methodoligies/approaches of "marketing" myself/services in Europe either. Live and learn, huh?

I need help, so if you have access to, or know about facilities for a workshop in your area (or a centralized location in Europe), or are willing to assist in helping me with this, please let me know. It will work out, just new to doing all of this here.

Hey Joe,

Yes, I've got both of them and even some more. I can't say it was all my doing, but yes, it was a good score.

Germany (Europe) is great. As I said in the other post, it's going to take some assistance to do what I need to do here. Chemistry is not a problem here. I'm brewing a nice big batch this next weekend, kein problem, kein angst.

It's funny you're asking that. I'm headed to Koeln (Cologne) this weekend to pickup some lenses. I'm sure I'll put some up on the forum, I bought a half-dozen nice ones - mostly Petzval style... we'll see. My other life will consist of hitting these flea markets and shops. I'm close to France, it seems between France and Germany, I'll have about anything I want as far as wet plate gear goes.

Morever, I can already see how beautiful the light is here and am VERY excited to start making plates!! Soon, very soon!
