If you are going to use a Mamiya TLR, you get the benefit of leaf shutters and flash synch at all available speeds.
But whatever you do, be sure to check that the synch selector hasn't migrated from the X position to the M position!
There is a reason that a lot of the used lenses out there have been modified to permanently set the selector to X.

Yep, I did that after I got my camera. Wasted a whole roll of film!

Rollinss work very well on my 2.8f. However, while parallex is corrected one must be aware of the resulting difference in angle of view of the two lenses when using them.

Hey Stone, you're not doing those intimate photographs again, are you?

I'm always shooting those, but that's with my RZ67 and the No 2 extension barrel.

Although I did do some test work with the Mamiya 645 AFD and it may end up being enough detail to switch to that, however I'll have to print a few 20x24 test images first to be sure. Just can't print those at school

Yeah, an RZ with extension tube would be a better camera for that then a TLR.

Can't print those at school, huh? When I went to college for commercial art I took figure drawing 1,2 and 3. We drew nude studies of live models every day. We drew the whole figure though and didn't do close ups except for hands or faces. We drew our own hands and each others faces in our regular drawing classes. Hands are the hardest things to draw.

I just think that, at the size I'm printing these and the content, they would be taken out of context when seen separately just laying on a drying rack vs in a show where the purpose is more obvious.

Thanks.

You should suggest to the College that they set up the dark room in their free speech zone! :D

For clarity, the reason for the warning is that the location and design of the X-M synch setting on the Mamiya C lenses makes them prone to being accidentally reset. In my case, I just developed the habit of checking the setting. But a fair number of wedding photographers (in the day) contact cemented them in the X position.

Hah! I believe it!

Hah! Oh this college is very liberal (they just had an exhibit in the gallery with images of men having sex with each other and you could see penetration and such). That's not the issue.

It's that I don't feel that the women in class would understand out of context and because the project is actually supposed to HELP women, I wouldn't want any of that positivity to be negated by any uncomfortable feelings someone might have in seeing it being produced out of context.

That's all I could have a mini show at the schoool and that would pribably be ok.

Here however I can't show any of it, even if the majority is shot on film and printed, the APUG folks aren't quite as open minded. Such is life.

Or rather, "And so it goes..."

For close-ups I've used Mamiya C330 TLRs with a Paramender for years. Works perfectly; for close-ups you need a tripod anyway. When using one of these cameras handheld I've found the parallax indicator satisfactory.
With the paramender and the 55mm wide angle lens pair fitted to a mamiya C330 you can get down to 1:1 life size.

A point missed in earlier replies is that a supplementary lens attachment has to be used with other TLRs which does affect image quality slightly. In this respect the Mamiya TLRs have a big advantage, and they are far quicker to use.
