Anyone ever use a barndoor type clip-on lens shade that also is slotted to fit 4x4 gel filters. In case you have: John P. Schaefer's revised edition of "Basic Techniques of Photograohy Book 1" you can see what I am talking about on page 98 of that book.

I've been searching a lot of the mail order sites and I can't seem to locate one like it.

Thanks for any help.
Chuck

i have.

in fact i removed the barndoors so i could attach it to the back end of wide format LF lenses.

mine was made by nikon, perhaps that would help

Dear Chuck,

I have one somewhere but almost never use it because it's too easy to poke the filter with the lens, which goes straight through the spring clip. At least this may make you feel better if you can't find one...

I also have a Nikon screw-in gel holder but the rubber that holds the gel went horribly sticky and slimy. Then there's the Kodak porte-filtre, which holds gels in frames...

There are lots of options but few if any are 'magic bullets'.

Cheers,

Roger

Is this the Calumet one? Some place I think I have one for 3"x3" filters.

I have one for 3x3" filters made by Voss--a very handy thing for all my odd-sized lenses. I think I paid around $15 for it from KEH. For 4x4" filters, I have a Lee Gel-Snap and the Sinar filter holder for the non-standard lenses.

If you go this route with 3x3", there is a very handy little pocket file made by Moleskine that is perfect for storing 3x3" gelatin and polyester filters.

I should have mentioned that I am just as interested in the lens shade capability as the filter holder capability.

I will try to search out the Nikon one that Ann mentioned.

Thanks for the replys.

Chuck

The Voss one has the barndoors.

I've seen a Kenko filterholder with barndoors, but I think those screw in rather than clipping on.

Thanks David----can you give me a particular mail order site that may have this item as I have not seen it at B&H, Calumet, Adorama.

Many thanks.

I've seen the Voss filter holders periodically on keh.com. I don't know that they are made anymore, but they seem fairly common. You could ask the other usual suspects, like mpex.com and such as well. It's a small item, so it may not be listed on the website.

I bought my Voss from Calumet. The draw back is that you'll be limited to lenses that the Voss will fit. If you'll be shooting a 14" Commercial Ektar---not chance! I use a Lee rubberband thingy and a hat for a lens shade on he lenses I don't have a series adapter for, or screw-on filters.
