Cleaning Glass Negative Holders

How do you clean your glass negative holders, and without ensuing drying streaks? I have tried 90% medical rubbing alchohl, and now the glass is worse that before before it tried to clean it.

Windex. Ultrasonic cleaner. Dish washing liquid & hot water. Automatic dishwasher, if the glass is not AR coated.

Streaking often happens because the crevice into which the glass fits is full of crud and cleaning loosens the crud and spreads it on the glass.

Try taking the glass out and cleaning it separately.

Lens cleaning fluid and cotton balls work wonderfully on the glass carrier for my Nikon film scanner. I assume that would work fine for glass enlarger carriers as well. I never used glass carriers in my darkroom, the plain ones on my Beseler 23cII worked fine at keeping film flat. My scanner, on the other hand, has crappy carriers so glass is required for decent sharpness. Kinda miss the darkroom

I have been using the Kinetronics Digital Scanner Glass Cleaning Kit to clean the glass holder of my scanner. Even with meticulous cleaning (at least by my standards), I still get some dust. I also use anti-static gloves to handle the holder and the film.

Hello, suggest microfiber cleaning cloth.

The microfiber cloth works well; also consider denatured alcohol which you can get at hardware or home-improvement stores. It's ethanol with enough methanol to keep it from being drinkable; leaves far less residue than isopropyl, which is what medical rubbing alcohol is.

Thanks to everyone for your fine suggestions, I tried eye-glass cleaning solution and it seems to work, albeit reasonably well.

Now if I could only find a solution for my darkroom dust problem, and for which I have tried all the classic remedies. At dust prone times like this, the high huminity and heat of the summer - with very little dust - does not seem so bad.

I use a Room Ioniser to help manage the dust.

I think it works, although I have never done a scientific A-B-A test with & without it.

I bought mine from my local Pharmacy - for about 10 UK Pounds (15 US Dollars)

For my contact printing glass I use Stoner Invisible Glass cleaner. You can find it in the automotive section in Target or other stores. Seems to work well.
