How does one clean old color slides?

Dear Trudy,

Very carefully! (Sorry about that ;>)

Blow them off first. If that isn't enough, I use PEC-12 and PEC pads. Edwal film cleaner works well too, sometimes it will remove things PEC-12 won't so I keep a bottle around as well.. Sometimes. If the dirt is stubborn (be gentle), leaving the cleaner sit on the film for a few minutes helps.

Somebody said freezing them without a bag and then wiping them with something that won't scratch it will take care of fungus/mold. You might try rewashing in water and then placing it back in a stabilizer bath.

Yes I read that one about freezing them and then wiping them with a soft cloth was the best solution to dirty slides. It has the advantage of not touching the slide with any other chemical which might cause future damage. Just be careful wiping off the the surface.
